What a great weekend to be in Crested Butte, CO for the annual Al Johnson Memorial Uphill/Downhill Race! I started my weekend by checking in to the Elevation Hotel right at the base of the mountain. You can just walk right out the double doors about 150 yards to the Red Lady Express lift—very convenient!
We began our weekend festivities snowshoeing Friday night to the Crested Butte Nordic Center for dinner. Not only was the dinner amazing and the wait staff super friendly and professional, but on the hike in, our group was guided to the yurt with the beautiful light of the (almost full) waxing moon. This was the weekend that the moon was going to be as close as it has to Earth since 2008 (Link).
Saturday morning we awoke to an outstanding breakfast at 9380 Prime in the Elevation Hotel. Again, the food and staff were both a pleasure! Next up, hit the slopes! It was a beautiful day on the mountain and we got to ride with professional skier, Wendy Fisher—what a treat! She really showed us her skills. For lunch, we ate mid-mountain at the Ice Bar. This was a great place for our group to unwind with a cocktail and full lunch after a long day. For Dinner, we ate at Secret Stash Pizzaria. Do not miss out on the Figalicious pizza if you get a chance to dine here—wow!
Sunday morning we ate the The Avalanche Bar & Grill before hit the mountain. They have great breakfast sandwiches that are a perfect base meal to begin your long day on the mountain. Some of our group participated in the Al Johnson Memorial Uphill/Downhill Race. This was such a fun event whether you raced or not. We supported our group at the starting point of the race which was up by the North Face Lift. The costumes that were showcased were priceless!
To wrap up a great trip, on Sunday evening we dined at Django’s. This restaurant serves their meals family style. I think it is safe to say that we tried just about everything on the menu… and were not disappointed by one item. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation at Django’s to reward your taste buds.
