Magical Montana

It started with a convertible… I was magically transformed into the Montana version of Malibu Barbie.  Alamo was the source of my newfound coolness as I slid into the Mustang rented at Kalispell airport.  Destination: Glacier National Park, which is aptly labeled one of the most beautiful places in the world.

The vistas were stunning as we drove past glistening lakes on Going to the Sun road, then hiked to Hidden Lake on paths sprinkled with snow.  Mountain goats warmly welcomed us. Next stop, a 30 minute ride to Whitefish Mountain Resort where Big Mountain holds its own against the beauty of Glacier’s peaks. Big Mountain receives 300 inches of powder annually and is a hidden gem of a ski resort — never a lift line, warm friendly locals and incredible bang-for-your-buck accommodations.

Hibernation House is currently offering a lodging deal of $75/night for 2 people with complimentary breakfast. Did I mention it is ON the mountain? In the heart of the village mountainside, lodging options include Eidelweiss, Anapurna, Telemark, Alpine Village, and Sherpa Condos. Sherpa condominiums boasts a mountainside pool. Ski-in or ski-out options include the Kintla Lodge, Kandahar Lodge, Morning Eagle Lodge, and Moose Run townhomes. We inadvertently discovered that a four-bedroom, four-bathroom townhome in Moose Run is more than spacious enough for a dance party tricked out with a fog machine and laser lights. A private hot tub completed the picture.

Still feeling social? The Bierstube Pub and historic Hellroaring Saloon round out the mountain nightlife. Still going? Head to the town of Whitefish, where local brews abound at the Great Northern Brewing Company. Or sip a huckleberry mojito on the lakeside patio at family-owned Grouse Mountain Lodge. Continue to maximize your mountain mojo with a spa treatment at the full service lodge at Whitefish Lake. With all the Whitefish area offers, you don’t need a convertible to feel like Montana Barbie after all.
