Although many people head to Steamboat for skiing or maybe a weekend in July, not too many ever think to visit Ski Town USA in the middle of September. You are missing out. My girlfriend and I decided to head over to Steamboat to participate in the OktoberWEST festivities. OktoberWEST is Steamboat’s version of Oktoberfest and is located in Gondola Square, which is in the heart of the base area at Steamboat Ski Resort. When we look at fun events that we might travel for, THIS is the type of event we love!
We found a fantastic place to stay at Trappeur’s Crossing Resort, which is located a couple of blocks from Gondola Square. The 2 bedroom condo was located in the Champagne Lodge and was just beautiful! Lots of space, awesome kitchen, and appointed with luxury lodge decor. There was a great outdoor pool and hot tub, but unfortunately we did not have time to utilize these amenities.
After sleeping in and taking our time getting ready on Saturday morning, we walked over to Gondola Square. You should have seen this place. On our way to get our mugs, we passed the bull riding station, then the kids gyroscope (or as I called it, the “let’s see what you had for lunch machine”), then the ropes course, and finally the bungee trampoline. Once we got there, tons of fantastic craft beers from over 20 Colorado brewers. Oh, and did I mention that Great American Taxi was playing? Awesome concert, great beer, and good times. What an awesome town.
