A Jackson Getaway: Snake River Lodge and Spa

Picture perfect fall weather, summer crowds decreasing by the minute, and scenery from your dreams. That’s what we experienced on our recent stay in Teton Village outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Our first stop was touring the old town of Jackson Hole where we saw amazing sculptures in the galleries and oohed and ahhed over the antler arches.  From there we drove the 15 minutes to our hotel, and on the way stopped a couple times to watch the elk herds in the fields surrounding the road, who entertained us by calling out to each other.

Snake River Lodge and Spa welcomed us with open arms. We were charmed by the antique elevator and rustic décor. The concierge service was very helpful and we stopped there almost every time we went out for food recommendations and tourist info. The Gamefish Restaurant had unique and delicious menu options and we splurged more than once to enjoy their fare; including their yummy breakfast menu which we enjoyed in our room.

Right in-between the city of Jackson and Grand Teton National Park, the location could not have been better. On our first full day, we took a scenic drive through the park and kayaked at Jenny Lake.  It was a fun and serene way to enjoy the beauty of those magnificent mountains.  After lunch, we took advantage of the excellent horseback riding tours that are literally next door to the Lodge.  We settled in for the evening by enjoying the amenities at our hotel, like the elaborate hot tub with its waterfall.

Taking a day trip to Yellowstone was also on our list.  The drive was beautiful with the fall leaves changing in front of the Grand Tetons.  When we arrived in Yellowstone, we were greeted by two buffalo on the side of the road; the first of MANY that we saw that day. Old Faithful blew us away, as did the other geysers and mud pots we saw (and smelledJ).  We marveled at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and hiked a little along its paths to catch all the viewpoints.  On our drive back, we timed a gorgeous sunset just right, with those ever impressive mountains in front of it.

Our final activity before heading home was to take advantage of the tram in Teton Village. We were able to go up the mountain and catch breathtaking panoramic views of the whole area. It was a great way to end our quick getaway to God’s country and we are so glad we got to experience the wonder and luxury of that area!
