Breck Spring Fever

Spring time in Colorado is my favorite time of year for many reasons. The snow is still falling, the skiing is great, the colors start to get a little brighter and in the past few years, ski resorts start their spring music series, which seem to grow in popularity every year.  Every spring I take a ski trip somewhere different. This year, one of my favorite bands just so happened to be playing a free concert the weekend I wanted to ski so it made my decision on where to go an easy one.

Leftover Salmon (yes, that is what they are called) was playing a free concert as part of Breckenridge’s “Spring Jam.”  They set up a stage on the mountain on Peak 8 and the two best things in life combine! Music and skiing. After skiing for half the day on the great spring snow, it was time to see the music! As always, Leftover Salmon (again, yes, that’s really their name, check them out sometime!) did not disappoint and neither did Breckenridge. Breckenridge offers so much in terms of dining and activities that after the music was over, we had a very hard time deciding where to go. We decided to just walk Main Street and see what we found.  We finally decided on “Giampietro” because we wanted pizza and everywhere else had a wait. To me, a wait is usually a good sign that the food is good but this time we did not have the patience so we kept looking. Hesitantly, we went to Giampietro so we could be seated right away. Let me tell you, none of us were disappointed and the pizza (and beer) were great….maybe it had to do with the beer, I don’t know but it was good and left all of us smiling! After dinner, it was time to hit up Main Street and the many, many bars that Breckenridge has to offer. Let’s just leave it at “we had a good time” and spare the details after dinner.

My trip to Breckenridge this year was shorter than usual but as always did not disappoint. Check out the town and the amazing skiing next time you get a chance and call me for any advice! I’ve been in and out of Breckenridge for almost 20 years.

**Other mountains are closed, but Breckenridge is extending the 2011-2012 ski season Friday, Saturday, and Sundays April 20-22 and April 27-29. It’s not too late to enjoy some skiing and springtime music!
