Winter Firsts in Tahoe

Lake Tahoe

Tahoe was my first tour of 2012. I realized that getting there was much easier than I thought. Fly into Reno and take a nice, easy shuttle less than an hour to the North Shore. To kickoff my “site tour firsts” list, I (finally) snowboarded for the first time in my life. Crazy, I know. Northstar set me up with a great instructor at the Burton Academy. Though this season was much lower for snow than usual, I hit a stroke of luck with some fresh powder to brace my falls. By the end of my first day, I was able to put together turns and work on some edge riding.

The second day of riding was at Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe. All ski resorts are beautiful, but only one can give you the views of a lake spanning your entire view as you ride down the mountain. With a few tips from my co-workers, I was able to ride some blue runs, top to bottom, without any spills. Thanks to my instructor at the Burton Academy and a little boost of confidence from my co-workers for getting me out there!
