Being a “Family Guy”, I was curious to see which properties in Mammoth would be most accommodating for a family vacation. For a summer trip I highly recommend the Mammoth Mountain Inn. It is located at the base of the Panorama gondola, adjacent to the bike park and adventure center. It offers easy access to all mountain amenities, and has a swimming pool as well. There is bus stop outside the hotel which takes you to hiking in the Devil’s Postpile National Monument, and you can catch the bus to Yosemite National Park from the same stop.
For winter trips I recommend the Juniper Springs Lodge. It is a true ski in/out property located next to the Eagle Express Lift. It has an excellent pool area, and ski school and rentals are available at the lodge. It has a 24 hour front desk with all hotel amenities available. If you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of town this is a great location.
I also recommend the Village Lodge for both summer and winter. The Village is the center of shopping and dining in Mammoth. This would be a great destination if you have any non-skiers in your group. It offers mountain access at the Canyon Lodge by way of the Village gondola. If you like to be in the center of the action, this is the spot for you!
